AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF AFRICAN BIG GAME HUNTING BOOKS, 1785 TO 1999 by Kenneth Czech 2011 CA, 313pp, color photos, 6x9, hardcover, dj
Who needs a bibliography of African-hunting books? Anyone who has an interest in collecting such books, wants to know if a book they have is a first edition, or is contemplating buying an expensive book and wants to know more about its content, binding, and relative rarity before purchasing. About ten years ago, Ken Czech compiled the first version of this book, but it listed only books published up to the year 1950. This greatly expanded and updated edition now includes African titles published prior to the year 2000. There are nearly 1,000 different titles listed, going back more than 200 years. This bibliography gives a complete physical description of the books, notes illustrations and presence of maps, as well as mentions whether the books were issued with dust jackets. In addition there is a description of the countries hunted, the locale where the hunting occurred and the game bagged. Often the name of the Professional Hunter is included as well. If you collect Africana and spend time and effort on your library, you will refer to this book again and again, and it will be one of the best investments you will ever make. It is a great tool, highly recommended, and will give you guidance in building your library. This book has a very short print run, and like the previous edition, we expect it to sell out quickly.
